We would like to announce the 2023 Ontario Clydesdale Club Ambassador - Claire Schipper!
Hello! My name is Claire Schipper and I am excited to be taking on the role of the Ontario Clydesdale Club's 2023 Ambassador! I am currently a Grade 12 high school student from the small town of Amherstburg, Ontario. I am planning on attending university next year for biomedical sciences in pursuit of a veterinary medicine degree, and hopefully specializing in equine reproduction. I have been fortunate enough to work with The Wismer Clydes and their beautiful horses. Through Ron and Gerald Wismer and the Ontario Clydesdale Club I have learned many new things spanning from the classic traditions of the Clydesdale breed, to the tips and tricks it takes to making a Clydesdale ready for the show ring and I always look forward to learning new things from the people that work in this wonderful industry. I love participating in shows such as the Wisconsin and Indiana State Fair, The Royal Winter Fair and many other shows, I always enjoy my senior decorating, showmanship and driving classes and will greatly miss participating in them next year. Some other things I love doing besides showing horses is playing hockey, reading, socializing with friends and going for jet ski rides with my family. I am honoured to have the role of the 2023 Ambassador and look forward to meeting and listening to more Ontario Clydesdale Club members this season!

"Hello everyone! I would like to announce that I will be attending some shows this season in hopes of meeting more Ontario Clydesdale Club members and educating the public about the beautiful breed that we all love! I will be showing at a couple out of province shows such as the Wisconsin State Fair, the Indiana State Fair, the Shipshewana Clydesdale/Shire Fall Classic and the Great Lakes International Draft Horse Show with the Wismer Clydes. On top of those shows I am planning on attending some shows in Ontario as the 2023 Ambassador such as The Royal Winter Fair and hopefully the Listowel Fair, the Paisley Fair and the Canadian Draft Horse Futurity in Ancaster. I cannot wait until Show season starts and hopefully I will see everyone there!
Thank you so much,
Your 2023 Ambassador,
Claire Schipper"

Hey everyone, this week I got the chance to go with the Wismer Clydes to one of our local schools to teach the students all about Clydesdales and what we use them for. The students enjoyed petting the horse and especially thought it was entertaining when one of them stuck their nose up in the air! I am so fortunate to have grown up in a community like the one we have in Amherstburg, it is such a welcoming and beautiful little town! This week we also got the chance to go to our local pet festival Woof-a-roo to show our four horse hitch! It was another amazing community event and the audience loved to hear all about the horses, especially when we told them that the four horses we were showing were in foal for 2024!!! Now it is time for us to start hitching our six horse hitch and getting them going for our show in Elkhart County Indiana!! Stay tuned for more updates as I will be travelling with the Wismer Clydes to Elkhart County Fair, the Wisconsin State Fair and the Indiana State Fair in the coming weeks!
Have a great day everyone!
Your 2023 Ambassador,
Claire Schipper

Hello everyone! These past couple of weeks have been busy, busy, busy!! We have been driving our six horse hitch to prepare them for the Elkhart County Fair that we will be leaving for on Thursday!! On top of driving the six I have been driving teams as much as possible to practice for my driving classes that I will be participating in as well as working on my Showmanship skills for this season!! These mares are incredible and are just amazing to be around I am so blessed to have the opportunity to work with these girls!!
We are working on getting our finishing touches done before we hit the road such as shortening manes, cleaning up tails, cleaning the semi truck, packing away our show stuff and all the other odds and ends jobs that goes into showing Clydesdales! These tasks are crucial to our showing operation so we can arrive at the shows as prepared as we can be! We are all looking forward to the 2023 show season and are excited to get out there and show the public what Clydesdales are all about!!
I hope everyone has an amazing week!

Oh my has this last month been very fun! We started off our show season going to the Elkhart County Fair to participate in an exhibition show with a Percheron and Belgian hitch. It was a great show for getting back into the swing of showing and teaching the public all about the Clydesdale breed, I got asked many questions like what do you do with Clydesdales and how much do they weigh which were great questions from the public and I had a great time answering all of them. Along with teaching the public about our Clydesdales I got the chance to give some children and adults their first time at petting a horse, getting to witness and help other people gain a memory that they will never forget is an amazing opportunity and privilege that I am honoured to do!
After our show at the Elkhart County Fair we headed to The Wisconsin State Fair where we had a great show and got to compete against some great hitches! The Wisconsin State Fair is always one of my favourite shows not just because of all the delicious fair food but because of the turn out at the show, every night when we hitch the stands are packed full of fair goers watching in aw of all the hitches, from the carts all the way up to the six horse hitches. Getting to watch the public watch a six horse hitch for the first time or see a Clydesdale up close will always be one of my favourite parts of showing horses.
Following the Wisconsin State Fair we had our most recent show the Indiana State Fair, another fantastic show! Getting to participate in my Senior Showmanship classes I was often announced into the ring as the Ontario Clydesdale Clubs 2023 Ambassador and in those moments I felt really proud to represent not only the Clydesdale breed but the Ontario Clydesdale Club and all this organization has to offer. At the end of the show I was award the overall senior showman award which I am honoured to have received! I don’t compete for the ribbons but I compete to gain more knowledge and understanding of what goes into showing Clydesdales, my favourite part of my classes is hearing the feedback I get from the Judges so I can further improve my skills!
Our next show that we will be attending is the Fall Classic Clydesdale/Shire Show in Shipshewana, Indiana. I am so excited to get to see some of the best that the Clydesdale breed has to offer at this show and getting to interact with the public more!
Hope everyone has an amazing week!

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is keeping warm as we are headed into fall!! I will definitely miss the summer but with the cold weather brings horse shows!!
On Labour Day weekend I traveled to Shipshewana to participate in the North American Clydesdale/Shire Show getting to reconnect with friends and getting to show some of our horses there. It was amazing to see some of our very own Ontario Clydesdale Club exhibitors at this show!! One of the many remarkable things about this show is the representation of the Clydesdale breed, there were just under 400 Clydesdales and Shires and 92 different exhibitors at this show which is great to see, the exhibitors traveling from Canada, the United States and even Scotland!!
This show holds a special place in my heart because of the amount of youth classes that are provided there, I think the representation of youth riding classes is something that is hopefully introduced to more shows in the future because the youth (including me) love these classes and it adds another aspect to the shows that the public usually doesn’t get the chance to see. The youth representation at this show is another thing to note, there were so many youth exhibitors, especially the Junior Showman’s with a total of 21 Junior Showman’s in the Showmanship class, isn’t that just amazing!!!
I can’t wait to head back to the MEC Centre on September 23rd for the North American Drive Six Finals!!! I hope to see some of you there! If not I will be at the Triple Crown Show the following day!!
Hope to see everyone out there!
Your 2023 Ambassador,
Claire Schipper
